The Sorensen™ Intelligent-Bidirectional Energy AMplified (i-BEAM) Series provides full DC source and sink capability for high-power testing, battery cycling, and simulation. Systems are available from 60 kW to 650 kW and can be paralleled for total power up to 5 MW. Output voltage ranges extend from 5 V to 1,500 V, with bidirectional current up to ±1,200 A per system and up to ±2,400 A in parallel.
Available in one-, two-, or four-channel configurations, i-BEAM uses a shared internal DC link to exchange power between channels, reducing the external power required from the AC grid during multi-channel testing. Each channel can be independently programmed as a source or sink. Air-cooled and water-cooled configurations are available to support installation and facility requirements.
The platform supports automated test environments through front-panel, digital, and analog control interfaces and is designed for applications including battery packs, electric powertrains, fuel cells, inverters, energy storage systems, data center power infrastructure, and other high-power DC devices.
Control via Front Panel Touchscreen and Digital or Analog Control Interfaces
The i-BEAM Series can be operated from the intuitive front-panel touchscreen, enabling users to configure, control, and monitor output programming parameters, supervisory and set-point limits, measurements, and system settings. Communication interfaces include VNC over Ethernet, Modbus TCP, CAN bus, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink, and high-speed analog control.
