Scalable bidirectional DC platform delivers up to 262.5 kW per rack for battery, data center, grid and high-power system testing

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 12, 2026) – AMETEK Programmable Power today announced the Sorensen™ Mi-BEAM Power Rack Series, a modular, bidirectional DC test platform that delivers up to 262.5 kW per rack and scales to multi-megawatt power levels.

The 42U rack supports up to seven Mi-BEAM power modules, each delivering up to 37.5 kW of bidirectional DC power for a total of 262.5 kW per rack. Available in configurations from 80 V to 2,000 V, the platform supports slew rates up to 230 A/µs and scales up to 8.6 MW* through parallel operation.

“Rapid growth in electrification, AI data centers and grid modernization is creating more demanding power validation requirements,” said Sam Hughes, AMETEK Programmable Power’s Division Vice President and Business Unit Manager. “Customers need to test higher-voltage batteries, power conversion systems and next-generation computing infrastructure without constantly redesigning their test environments. The Mi-BEAM Power Rack provides a scalable platform that grows with those requirements.”

Operating as both a programmable DC source and regenerative electronic load, the Mi-BEAM Power Rack supports constant current (CC), constant voltage (CV), constant power (CP) and constant resistance (CR) operating modes, as well as battery simulation, charge/discharge testing, photovoltaic simulation and drive-cycle testing.

“The system brings high power, bidirectional operation and intelligent control together in a rack-level solution,” said Ben Jackson, Division Vice President, Power Product Management and New Product Development. “Customers can start with the power level they need today and expand their capability over time without changing platforms, simplifying long-term test system investment.”

Each rack includes rack-level and individual branch circuit breakers, Emergency Power Off functionality, CE marking and NRTL-listed certification to applicable safety standards. Communication interfaces include LAN, USB, RS-232C, CAN and isolated analog programming, with optional IEEE-488 communication, isolated power outputs and polarity detection.
